Intermountain Health is recruiting a hand surgeon to Grand Junction, on Colorado's western slope.
Geography does more work in this post than in most. Grand Junction is the referral centre for a very large, thinly populated area of western Colorado and eastern Utah — the nearest comparable centre is several hours away. For a hand surgeon that usually means a wide catchment, a case mix that includes what a metropolitan practice would refer on, and a genuine role in regional cover rather than a share of a crowded market.
It also means an outdoor setting that a certain kind of candidate will consider the point of the job, and a certain kind will consider the drawback.
