1 The job
The essentials. Everything else comes after this.
Job title
One per listing. No ALL CAPS, no money in the title, no dates —
Google rejects listings that do those things.
Category
Choose one… Academic & university Private practice Orthopaedic group Plastic surgery practice Hospital & health system Trauma & replantation Locum tenens
Employment type
Full-time Part-time Contract Temporary Internship
Skills and tags Optional
Up to 8, comma separated. These become the little chips on your listing.
Job description
Markdown supported. Minimum 400 characters — Google rejects thin
descriptions, and so do we.
2 Job details
What a candidate screens on. Only the marked answers are needed.
What does the work actually cover? Tick at least one
Tick everything that is genuinely part of the post. This is the primary sort on the board, and it is what a surgeon filters on before reading a single title.
General hand
Trauma & fractures
Microvascular & replantation
Peripheral nerve
Brachial plexus
Wrist arthroscopy
Wrist & thumb arthroplasty
Congenital & paediatric
Dupuytren's
Elbow
Shoulder & upper extremity
Nerve compression
Tumour
Burns & soft tissue reconstruction
What is the call?
The most common reason a good post is turned down, and the question every candidate asks first. Saying "1:4 with replant" up front loses you the surgeons who would have said no anyway, which is the point.
Choose one… No call Hand call 1:6 or lighter Hand call 1:5 Hand call 1:4 Hand call 1:3 or heavier Shared orthopaedic call Shared plastics call Level I trauma with replantation Negotiable
Board certification required
What the credentialling committee will actually accept. Be precise — "board certified or eligible" and "CAQ required" filter to very different groups of people.
Choose one… ABOS certified with CAQ in Surgery of the Hand ABOS certified or eligible, hand fellowship required ABPS certified with hand surgery training ABOS or ABPS, with hand fellowship Hand fellowship-trained, board eligible considered Board certified in any relevant specialty
How is the compensation structured? Optional
The range above is the number; this is how it is earned. A guaranteed salary and a pure wRVU model at the same headline figure are not the same offer, and the difference matters most in the first two years.
Choose one… Guaranteed base salary Base salary plus wRVU productivity Base salary with a productivity bonus Pure wRVU productivity Salary then collections after year one Partnership draw Daily or hourly rate
Is there a partnership or tenure track? Optional
Worth more than the base salary over a career, and almost never stated in the advert. If there is a buy-in, say so here rather than at the second interview.
Choose one… Partnership track — two years Partnership track — three years or more Partnership available, timing negotiable Employed, no partnership track Academic appointment, tenure track Academic appointment, clinical track Not applicable — temporary post
Operating days per week Optional
Block time, not theoretical availability. A surgeon reads a low number as a clinic job with a scalpel attached.
Visa sponsorship Optional
A large share of hand fellowship graduates in the United States need one, and a post that does not say either way gets applications it cannot accept and misses ones it could.
Choose one… J-1 waiver considered H-1B sponsorship available J-1 waiver and H-1B both considered No sponsorship available US citizens and permanent residents only
When does it start? Optional
Roughly is fine — "August 2027" or "as soon as credentialled". Credentialling alone runs eight to twelve weeks, so a date is more useful than "immediately".
Listings are reviewed by a person before publishing, usually within 24 hours. We
reject anything asking the people who reply to pay, commission-only jobs, and postings with discriminatory requirements. If yours is rejected you are
refunded in full.
